Servicing Your Harley
Servicing your Harley is the most important thing in its life!
It is the best way to ensure the good running and reliability of your bike. You should always have a 5000 service once a year even if you don't do many miles. Why? Oil and greases deteriorate with age (don't we all...) and the engine and transmission collect condensation which is very bad for the oily bits inside. And don't run your engine for a few minutes every few weeks over the winter either... the oil needs to attain a temperature of at least 100 deg C to boil off the water / condensation. So leave it alone - get it serviced before it is put away for the winter. Now Harley recommend a service every 5000 for '04 up bikes, but I would still reckon that an oil and filter change every 2500 is a good idea - it's up to you. If you buy a bike that is a few years old, get a 10K service done - then you have a good start point. It also means that we can check the whole bike over - and if the tyres are over 3 years old they should be changed too. The rubber goes hard and cannot give the grip and safety levels afforded by the latest compounds.
So, get your bike booked in, eh? 5K £130 all in!! A bit more for Buells as they take a bit longer. Ask for details...
2500 and 5000's are ok on Saturdays. 10k's take a lot longer. You can always drop off the bike on a Saturday and pick it up later in the week or the following weekend. I can often stay late if that helps with dropping off / picking up. Don't forget tyres always in stock for all Harleys and Buells. If you have whitewall tyres I need to order them - but like all tyres I can order up to 5.45 pm for delivery next day!!
